My parents are too overprotective... its like they're telling me I can't like any boys or anything?

I am 16 and i'm really close to my parents. But when I want to go to a dance with a guy or something, they freak out saying they don't even know the guy I am going with. I met this guy almost 2 years older than me and I like him as a friend and want to know him better. My mom wants me to have nothing to do with him because she says I don't know him. I don't know him because there is no chance to talk to him. What can I do to let them know I am not going to be an idiot and am mature enough? I know how this world is messed up, I know I can't to certain things. It is so hard for me to meet friends when 3/4 the time, I am being forced to stay home.My parents are too overprotective... its like they're telling me I can't like any boys or anything?

Listen to them it is for your own good. You have plenty of years left to date and stuff like that so just listen to them for now. If you take one wrong step now you are going to regret it the rest of your life. Trust me you will have fun later. I am 23 ( a guy) have never been on a date I did not go to my high school prom or homecomings, I have went through college Without a GF and now that I have graduated I can find one so that I have more time to spent with her. your parents are just worried about you. they are being protective because they love you. they probably trust you it's just that they don't trust teenage guys. just tell them that you would like a little bit more freedom and try to negotiate
